When construction is occurring in a neighborhood we typically notice an increase in mice, rat and other critter calls to our office. Homeowners and property managers stating that critters started moving into their home right around the same time that new development down the street was being built. Presenting the question “can construction increase critter activity?”

One of the main reasons critters have moved into attics, basements, and garages has been due to a decrease of resources and a need to find shelter. If a raccoon was living in the hollow of a tree, and that tree was cut down the raccoon needs to find a new place to live. When an abandoned home is leveled, the mice that were in that building will look for a new building to live in. In many cases they move in next door. A good practice is to ensure the exterior of your home has proper seals and screens to exclude critters from invading.

All critters require food, water and shelter to survive. To limit the opportunity of critters selecting your home for those resources have a professional inspect your property for cavities before critters do. For more information connect with us on our main page or give us a call!
